Third graders will find the Bear Cub book challenging with all the different activities and electives to choose from.

(If the Cub Scout has not previously earned the
Bobcat Badge, it must be earned first). See
Advancement section for the requirements
for this badge.
They must complete 3 Achievements to earn 1
of the 4 possible yellow beads.
To earn the Bear rank a Cub Scout must complete 12 achievements out of a possible 24 that are offered in the book. Within each group, a required number of achievements must be completed. See the Bear Rank requirements.(334KB)
The achievements are grouped in 4 major areas:
(Note that these achievements, are primarily done
at home and signed off by an adult family member
after the boy has completed each one. The book is
then shown to the Den Leader who records the
progress and also signs the boy's book).
You can easily track your Bear Cub achievements with the Worksheet Advancements for Bear Scouts. (57KB)
As an assistant Bear Leader this was the first worksheet that I designed to keep up with the 12 Bear Cubs that we had in our Den. Little did I realize that I would design a complete set and then years later resign them for the new books. I hope that other Leaders find these worksheets helpful understanding the requirements and with record keeping.
To promote uniform wearing, bringing books to Den meetings and attendance I have a Bead roll form under Miscellaneous that you just check off the boxes.
